Going into the playoff, the Colonie Boys Basketball team stands at a spectacular 20-0 record. The combination of a new coach, experienced seniors, and young juniors willing to work, has this squad working together to complete an undefeated regular season and looking to finish the job in the playoffs.

With Coach Davis coming in at the beginning of the year, the team was focused on trying to get to know each other and adapt. Not being familiar with each other was  what many athletes noted as the biggest challenge for them.

“The way in which we approached how we did things has morphed as I’ve gotten to know them and they’ve gotten to know me,” Davis says.

Davis emphasizes six qualities in his players on and off the court: “Listen, effort, attitude, dominate, execute, and respect” he says. These qualities spell out LEADER and have become what the boys have committed to for the season.

Throughout the year the team has competed in a lot of close games and come out on top. Coach Davis attributes this to having seniors like Julius Reed, Cam Trimarchi and Treyvon Owens-Cody with their wealth of experience. He also mentioned how well the juniors have adapted into their roles.

“If the players are going to do the work and the coaches are going to do the work, then we will be successful,” Davis says.

Coach Davis continues to preach the importance of making sure they are doing the little things like hard work in the weight room and having good court sessions to keep his players ready.

After going undefeated and running the table this regular season this team knows they have a target on their back and will have to make sure they are ready for everyone. “We need to continue what we've been doing that makes us successful and continue it into the playoffs," he said.

Davis explained that the mentality for the team going forward is “Jobs not finished yet, just keep pushing.”

This laser focus mindset has already helped them win in the postseason. After a 71-54 win over Albany in the quarter finals, it is looking like they may be on their way to accomplishing something more special than they could have ever imagined.

Evan Ragone, a senior student here at Colonie, says “Before this year I didn’t pay much attention to Colonie Boys Basketball but this year has been different and more exciting to watch”.

The students at Colonie have something to be proud of and can be excited about the program going forward.

The team’s next game is against CBA on Thursday February 29. CBA is ranked 5th in Section II.
