On Friday, February 11, the Class of 2022 Executive Club hosted the annual Colonie Central High School Senior Breakfast. The unifying meal included Panera bagels, juice boxes, crowded seating, senior superlative winners, and disagreement.

Panera catered the event, providing plenty of bagels for the students to enjoy in many varieties including everything bagels, plain, sesame, and cinnamon along with cream cheese.

The Class of 2022 Executive Club advisors, Ms. Meglino and Ms. Gigiello, were in attendance. Ms. Luce and Mr. Dutcher who helped with crowd control and technology set up respectively.

With all seniors of the 2022 class invited, the Main Cafeteria did not have enough seats for the entire class. Ms. Luce, the senior principal, brought up additional seats.

Ms. Gigiello, one of the breakfast coordinators stated “... the event is the same (as previous years), we don’t really have limitations on the number of students or where they’re sitting.”

The crowded tables were filled with unmasked students for the entirety of the second period, despite Covid protocols that are usually enforced heavily in hallways and classrooms.

An announcement dismissed the seniors right before the second period bell, which led to congestion at the bottom of the main stairs. Along with the crowded seating arrangement, all the seniors had to wait outside of the Main Cafeteria until passing time concluded so everyone could fit through the doors.

Ms. Gigiello stated that students were meant to be “...dismissed at the end of first period to prevent hallway congestion.”

It is clear that the faculty did attempt to make this event unfold as seamlessly as possible, but the large size of the senior 2022 class of Colonie High School made it difficult.

The president of the club announced the senior superlatives at the end of breakfast. A long term member of the 2022 Executive Club designed the superlative slideshow.

A disagreement occurred when an award winner wanted to make a speech but was not allowed to, and a juice box was thrown. The disagreement resulted in the excusal of the student from the rest of the event.

The Class of 2022 Executive Club created a memorable event for the senior class. As it instilled reassurance that Covid-19 would not hinder their senior year events as it had in years prior.
