With the end of the year quickly approaching, many seniors at CCHS are looking forward to and planning for one of the biggest events of the year: Senior Prom.
For many girls, the planning for prom has been an ongoing task of finding the perfect dress for the occasion. Senior, Ellie Mastaitis, says is “stressful at the beginning,” due to the fear of accidentally buying the same dress as someone else. Though most dress shops will keep running lists to ensure no two purchased dresses for students at one school are the same.
Meanwhile, Tyler Sinkins has yet to start his search for a suit. “No I have not started looking, I need to get on that,” he says, and explains that he isn't worried about finding one. His worry-free demeanor is a stark contrast to Ellie’s nervous excitement regarding the fashion preparation, demonstrating how different this time leading up to prom can look for different seniors.
The planning doesn't stop at just dresses, tuxedos, and jewelry. Some seniors are gearing up for giving or receiving a “promposal”, a personalized and often public request for another person to be your date to prom. Ellie Mastaitis says she expects to receive a promposal from her date this year, but that she also received one last year from a friend.
“I like promposals, it's a nice gesture,” she says, explaining how they can make it special regardless of whether the person doing it for you is a friend or a date. However, there is a certain level of pressure to bring a date to prom. “A lot of girls feel that way,” Mastaitis says.
Meanwhile Tyler Sinkins says he doesn’t feel like there's too much pressure to have a date, and he knows many people will be going with friends instead.
Behind the scenes class officers and advisors have been working tirelessly all year to make preparations for one of the most iconic events of senior year.
Senior class president, Maelynn Yang, has been working hard to plan a successful prom. From location to small details like the color the table cloths, everything is planned out ahead of time. A lot of time, dedication, and money is put into this event.
“In the end we are spending a total of 12,000 dollars for prom,” Yang says, a number that includes the cost of booking the Marriott Hotel, a DJ, decorations, food, a photo booth, and more.
Yang explains that the goal is to make as many people as possible happy, which is no small feat; however, the labor is ultimately easier than that for junior prom she says.
“With the Marriott, they end up doing a lot of the planning for us,” she says, which is different from junior prom where it was up to the students to do all the decorating; while this year, Marriott staff will be helping, easing the workload for class officers and advisors.
This year's prom will take place at the Marriott Hotel on Wolf Road from 7-10 PM on Saturday 6/7. Tickets will be available from 5/5-5/16 on GoFan at 75 dollars per person, or 145 dollars per couple. Seniors must fill out all the appropriate forms before purchasing tickets, and students should monitor their emails for more information.
