Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is the sequel to the first Sonic movie and is currently playing in theaters. The movie is a love letter to Sonic fans while still being great for all audiences.
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 is about Dr Robotnik (Jim Carrey) coming back to earth and trying to find the master emerald with the help of Knuckles (Idris Elba) so he can stop Sonic (Ben Schwartz). Sonic tries to find the emerald first, with the help of Tails(Colleen O’Shaughnessey). There are also scenes with the human family that Sonic lives with which could be cut out of the movie, as they have little effect.
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 is a lot different from the first film, being that it's more focused on Sonic than the humans from the first movie. With small references to the games, ranging from small references, to things like how Robotnik looked in the first game being shown briefly to the use of the master emerald which is a major plot point but can still be understood by people unfamiliar with Sonic.
Easily the most entertaining part of the movie is whenever Robotnik, played by Jim Carrey, is on screen, due to his goofy mannerisms and speech. The inclusion of the other main Sonic characters is a great edition and are faithful to the source material and how they would act and talk. They even used the current voice actor for Tails even though with most movies they would have added a famous celebrity for promotion.
There are some weird shots at the end of the movie with lighting though. For one scene, the lighting is accurate to the current setting on Robotnik, but then in another scene you can clearly tell it was green screen it's like you can see an outline of the green screen itself. But besides the weird lighting issues, all of the Sonic characters are animated and look accurate to their design in the games..
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 has some issues like the forced inclusion of the human family, weird lighting issues at the end, and some references to pop culture that feel forced and will make you let out an audible sigh. other than that it's a good movie due to the main cast and the animation. Sonic and is a love letter to the die hard fans of the franchise.
